A whole-body composition DEXA scan provides a detailed analysis of your overall mass, lean mass, body fat %, visceral fat, bone density and more, which is crucial in tracking overall health and wellness.

What is a DEXA scan?

The HOLOGIC DEXA scan is the industry gold standard of body composition and analysis.

The 6-minute medical imaging scan assesses body composition, including bone mineral density, lean tissue, and fat mass, producing a detailed, visual report.

Why have one?

Unlike traditional methods of body composition testing like BMI calculations or skinfold tests, DEXA scans provide a detailed, region-specific analysis of your body.

This data is a more accurate indicator for an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Dashboard Overview

Your personal dashboard provides a comprehensive, bold visual overview of your results, with clear charts and graphs that display the data in a user-friendly layout.

All previous scans are easily accessible to view and share.

The power to see inside

The Hologic DEXA scan uses a low-dose X-ray beam at to create a precise full-body map showing fat distribution, muscle mass, bone density, and total body composition, making it a trusted tool for tracking health, fitness, and risk factors like osteoporosis or visceral fat.

The scan cannot diagnose specific diseases, soft tissue injuries, metabolic or hormonal disorders, location-specific bone injuries, or internal organ conditions.

Lean Mass

The total weight of muscles, organs, and other non-fat tissues in your body, important for tracking strength, metabolism, and overall functional health.

Visceral Fat

Fat stored deep around your internal organs, which is critical to monitor because high levels are linked to serious health risks like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Body Fat %

The proportion of your weight that is fat, essential for understanding body composition, fitness levels, and health risks beyond just scale weight.

Total Body Mass

Total weight including fat, muscle, bone, and fluids, which provides a baseline for understanding health changes over time.

Bone Density

A measure of how strong and mineral-rich your bones are, which helps assess risk for fractures and conditions like osteoporosis.

I first took a DEXA scan because I was curious to learn more about my body (especially my bone density) and I'm so glad that I did. I learned more about my body that helped change my workout routine and some eating habits that I didn't realize I needed. Because of that info, I was able to do the right kind of workouts which resulted in me being in one of the best shapes in the last 5 years!

Would recommend if looking to learn more about your body.

FAQ

What is a DEXA Scan?

A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scan is a medical imaging test that measures bone density and body composition, including fat, muscle, and bone mass.

Who should get a DEXA Scan?

Individuals looking to accurately assess their body composition, such as athletes, people monitoring their health or weight loss progress.

How should I prepare for a DEXA Scan?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers or buttons. Avoid taking calcium supplements 24 hours before the scan. Additionally, for maximum accuracy, you’ll want to do the scan under the same circumstances each time. So, if you fast for the first scan, you may want to fast for subsequent scans, so that changes in your body composition are a reflection of actual change, rather than the presence of food.

Is a DEXA scan safe?

Absolutely, DEXA scans are generally safe as they involve very low levels of X-ray radiation, typically equivalent to the amount one would receive from a day of natural environmental exposure. However, it's crucial to note that, as a precautionary measure, DEXA scans are not recommended for pregnant women.
